Hitman Rohit Sharma had no problem with it whatsoever. Along with Ajinkya, he helped India put on 300 runs at the end of the day. Youngster Shubman Gill was dismissed early on. He wanted to leave the ball which eventually struck to his knee and the umpire had no confusion regarding the decision and he was given out. Pujara then came on to bat. Rohit by then started playing well and looked set. He scored a quick half-century but that’s on Pujara got out. Pujara was batting on 21 when Jack Leach dismissed him. Captain Virat Kohli then came to bat and to his horror, Moeen Ali picked his wicket in a manner that Virat Kohli couldn’t believe. The ball turned so much that Kohli couldn’t do anything. He was dismissed for 0. After losing 2 quick wickets, Rohit slowed down his innings and along with Rahane made 162 run partnership to bring India back into the game. Rohit made a brilliant century and just when everyone felt that he’s once again on his way to 200, he got dismissed. Going for the sweep shot, he was caught by Moeen Ali and a beautiful innings of 161 runs came to an end. Rahane as well got out pretty soon after that. He made 67 runs when Ali dismissed him. Ashwin was picked by Root on 13. Rohit Sharma after his century. (Picture Courtesy – BCCI) Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel was batting when the umpires called it a day. Rishabh is batting on 33 while Axar is batting on 5. If they put another 60-70 runs on board, India will have a great chance to put England in a lot of pressure specially when the ball is turning so much. .

England keep alive hopes of making WTC final with Chennai win
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Source – Twitter Xtra Time Web Desk: England’s winning start against India in their ICC World Test Championship series has kept alive the visiting side’s hopes of making the final of the nine-team competition. The victory at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday has lifted England to first place and 70.2 percentage points on the points table  and they’ve improved their chances of securing one of the three series results in their favour that could see them through to the final – 3-1, 3-0 or 4-0. New Zealand have already qualified for the final winning 70.0 per cent of their matches (with no other series scheduled) while India and Australia remain in contention for the other place along with England. India, who have slipped to fourth position with 68.3 percentage points, cannot afford another loss in the four-match series and will be looking to win at least two of the remaining three matches to secure a 2-1 or 3-1 result and a place in the final. Australia will get to feature in a Trans-Tasman summit clash if the India-England series is drawn or if England win 1-0, 2-1 or 2-0. Pakistan’s 2-0 home win over South Africa sees them finish the series in fifth position with 43.3 percentage points, while South Africa slip to sixth position with 30.0 percentage points. West Indies are seventh with 23.8 percentage points after their epic victory in the first Test against Bangladesh, who are last on the table and yet to win a point. .

Virat backs Rahane, justifies Shahbaz Nadeem’s selection
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Virat Kohli during the Press Conference. XtraTime Web Desk – After losing to England horribly in the first test at Chepauk, Indian captain Virat Kohli shared some light on the first test and expects that his team will fight back to seal the series in India’s favour. Ajinkya Rahane has not been in a good form with bat. He scored a hundred in Melbourne and since then, Jinks hasn’t been in best of form. He just made one run in his last two innings. When he was facing the heat, Captain Virat backs his deputy saying, “I’ve said many a times in the past as well, along with Pujara, Ajinkya is our most important test batsman. We believe in his abilities for a long time now and he’s an impact player”. He added, “If you talk about the MCG test, he stood up and scored the hundred when the team needed it the most. There’s absolutely no issues. Everyone’s playing really well. Just need to be focused a lot more. Victories are earned in any condition whether playing in home or away from home, nothing is given in test cricket”. The Indian captain also justified why Shahbaz Nadeem was picked ahead of Kuldeep Yadav in the first test. In the press conference, he said, “When you’re playing two off spiners, it more or less becomes similar spinner taking the ball away. So, you need variety in the bowling attack. We were clear what combination we wanted to play and there’s no regrets whatsoever on that decision. We will think of combinations that bring out variety as a bowling attack. Not just one dimension where the ball is turning just one side. It’s important to understand”. Virat Kohli also went to say that “I don’t think anyone batted better than Shubman in this test match”. Virat went on to explain why India lost the test match. He said, “The test probably shifted in their favour when we batted in the first innings because we wanted to bat long and I don’t think there was enough application by the batting unit. Something we take a lot of pride in”. He added, “We want to have long partnership. For us, it’s trying to win a game of cricket and we need to play solid cricket then we should do that as batsman and as a batting unit we understand that. In future games, it’ll be long partnerships and not about 100 as individuals”. .

“Ishant has been one of the most hardworking cricketers I’ve seen in Indian dressing room”: Ashwin
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Ravi Ashwin during the Press Conference. XtraTime Web Desk – With Daniel Lawrence’s wicket in the second innings, Ishant Sharma picked up his 300th test wicket in his career. He’s the third Indian pacer to do so after Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan. When Ashwin was asked to throw some light on it, he said, “Ishant has been one of the most hardworking cricketers I’ve seen in Indian dressing room”. He added, “From Ishant that went to Australia to get Ricky Ponting out to go to do many other yours. For a fast bowler to get to 100 tests in India is no joke and it’s a fantastic fantastic achievement. He’s the third Indian pacer to do so. I can go on complimenting him but I really wish to see him go on and take 400 or 500 wickets”. England delayed a bit in declaring this innings. The experts and the fans felt they should but Joe Root didn’t and then India bowled them out at 178. When Ashwin was asked about that, he said, “We expected that they will probably try for 430 or 440 on the board. So, we were also trying to manage our bowlers accordingly. I’m not sure what went inside their dressing room, I think the bowlers being tired and coming out to ball, all this things gets factored in. So, is their management call”. Washington Sundar’s 85 was very crucial for India to set up a decent total on board. He helped India reach 357 runs. Speaking about that, Ashwin said, “We actually did believe that we can wipeout the follow-on. Both Washi and I played on pitches here”. He added, “Washi is a fantastic batsman. I think a lot of people going by the t20 format where we plays at number 7 don’t recognize his batting talent”. Speaker about the wicket, Ashwin said, “When I saw the wicket, I thought it’ll be pretty good to bat on but I thought it’ll do a bit more than what it did on the first day. It was really flat. It was a crucial toss for us. I think we fought back really well throughout the course of the day yesterday and even today. If we have a good fifth day, we will be happy to round off this test”. .

Pant and Pujara’s knock put India in a respectable position but England remains in the driving seat
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant during their innings. (Picture Courtesy – BCCI) XtraTime Web Desk – Cheteshwar Pujara’s 73 and Rishabh Pant’s 91 helped India pose a respectable total after day three’s play. England didn’t declare and continued batting but Indian bowlers quickly bowled them out for a massive 578 runs. Ravi Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah took 3 wickets each as Nadeem and Ishant took 2 each. Rohit and Gill came to open but Rohit couldn’t pose any threat as he was dismissed at 6 by Jofra Archer. His opening partner Gill looked good but unfortunately he was also dismissed by Archer at 33. Indian captain Virat Kohli failed to create any danger and was dismissed at 11 by Dom Bess. Ajinkya Rahane also got dismissed cheaply at 1. Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant then created a solid partnership that helped India to gain some momentum. They set up a 100+ run partnership when Cheteshwar Pujara was dismissed in an unfortunate fashion. Pujara tried to pull Dom Bess through short leg but it hit the fielder in the shoulder and was a simple catch for Rory Burns. He got dismissed at 73 and Washington Sundar came to crease. Soon, Dom Boss got his fourth wicket in form of Rishabh Pant who got dismissed at 91. Washington Sundar and Ravi Ashwin are batting when the game ended at day 3. Sundar is batting at 33 and Ashwin is batting at 8. India are 257 for 6 and are still 321 runs behind England. England are clearly ahead and has a strong grip into the match. India needs a good partnership to comeback into the match but they need to do a lot to put England into any kind of pressure. .

“The pitch is very good for batting, I’m sure our batsmen will also score”: Shahbaz Nadeem
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Shahbaz Nadeem during his Press conference. XtraTime Web Desk – A lot of fans raised an eyebrow when Shahbaz Nadeem was picked ahead of Kuldeep Yadav in the first test against England. On Saturday, after picking the wickets of Joe Root and Ben Stokes, Nadeem tried to justify his selection. In the press conference after day 2, Nadeem was asked about his plans going into the day 2 of the match to which he said, “In this wicket, we can only plan to bowl in the correct places. If we would’ve planned to take wickets then we would’ve given more runs. Thus the plan was to bowl in the right areas and if any batsmen goes for a shot, then there will be a possibility for a wicket”. India bowled a total of 19 no balls in the first innings so far. A lot considering the fact that even spinners like Ravi Ashwin and Nadeem bowled quite a few. Regarding his no balls, Nadeem said, “I think I was jumping a bit late. I need to jump close to the crease but I feel I’m not able to jump properly. I need to work that out on the nets”. Nadeem also believes that just like the English batsmen, Indian players will also do good once they come out to bat. “The game plan for tomorrow is to bowl them out as soon as possible”. He added, “The pitch is very good for batting. I’m sure our batsmen will also score a lot of runs. You can see that”. .
